"With countless Vattenine and Felicine dead at each others' hands, can you consider either people to have won?"

The Vattenine are a mainly aquatic race, believed to have arrived at the same time as the Feclicine. The Vattenine are a secluded race and pose no outward threat to humanity, but travellers need to be careful of running into them whilst on a journey, otherwise they may never return. The Vattenine are known to live in underwater settlements within the Great Lake Ultor.

Whilst the Vattenine originally existed uncorrupted alongside the Felicine, a great war between the two occurred near the same time as their corruption. It is speculated among some that their war helped bring about their corruption, which continues to the modern day, with skirmishes seen on a regular basis. In these constant battles, neither side is considered victorious.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A powerfully built race, the Vattenine appear almost human from the shoulders down, however their head is bulbous and large, with razor-sharp teeth lining the inside of their mouths and bulging eyes that stare out at the world, blinking vertically instead of horizontally. A Vattenine head is able to rotate ninety degrees from its upright position, which allows for rapid manoeuvring through the water, into a right angle, which allows the Vattenine to see when on the surface. The Vattenine have webbed, clawlike, hands and feet, which can be deadly when used in combat.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vattenine engage in oviparity, where the female lays a clutch of unfertilised eggs that are externally fertilised by the male. These gestate for a period of 4-7 months before spawning.

Growth Rate & Stages

An average Vattenine takes between 2-3 years to mature fully from a fry to a juvenile to an adult and has a life expectancy of 20 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Vattenine live primarily in the water, however are able to leave for limited periods on the surface. The majority of the Vattenine are known to live in the Great Lake Ultor, in what are speculated to be developed settlements.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Vattenine are herbivores in nature, subsisting off algae and other water-based plants.

Biological Cycle

When the colder months set in, the Vattenine enter a state of near hibernation, where they take a more sedentary lifestyle and require a lower caloric intake. If the summers become too hot, the Vattenine will abandon their water in favour of a colder settlement, otherwise they risk boiling alive. The Vattenine don't do this for cold weather, however, so have been found frozen within blocks of ice, their surprise caught eternally on their faces.
