"Those cold stone walls hold a great deal of warmth for us. It's the least we can do to show that warmth back, however we can."

Located within the Settlement of Winter, the House of Healing is a longstanding institution as well as a literal life saver for many nomads who often fall unwell whilst taking the Great Walk.

Structure

The needs of the House are seen to equally by the healers, however because there is a large overlap between members of the Council of Winter and the House of Healing, these healers who belong to both are looked at with a sense of seniority. Each year one of the healers is elected to oversee the upkeep of the House, making sure it is well maintained and supplied using the resources available.

Public Agenda

The House of Healing seeks primarily to treat injured nomads no longer able to undertake the great walk back to health and secondarily to teach apprentice nomads the skills required to be an effective healer. Healers of the House are also known to speculate on the inner workings of Azlyð's corrupted races, bringing cadavers to study when circumstances allow it.

History

The House of Healing has existed for as long as the settlement of Winter. When the first settlers made their homes in the stone buildings of Winter, they promised to take on some of the sick and injured and do their best to heal them by the time the nomads returned next year. When the next year came around, they returned those they had managed to heal and accepted more people into the house. Along with these patients, some more healers chose to settle and help with the healing.

Over the years, as the number of patients to the House increased, more and more nomads began to ask whether they could learn under these healers. While the House couldn't sustain a proper teaching environment, the healers knew they couldn't refuse the extra help so offered apprenticeships to these nomads. These apprenticeships would help more patients receive treatment as well as provide more nomads with the vital knowledge required to treat the sick and injured.

Whenever the nomads return to Winter, along with the transfer of patients, the house takes on temporary apprentices, to provide aid to those who have sustained injuries too great to treat whilst journeying, however not severe enough for them to stay for a complete year.
