"Always be vigilant in teaching our young apprentices, you never know whose hands will be healing you the next time you get sick or injured."

The chief minister of Winter, Cleanwounds Sarmen Healer was one of the best nomadic healers in his time, capable of fixing many of the common (not to mention uncommon) ailments that would befall his fellow wanderers. Age, unfortunately, got to him, and a near fatal encounter with a Grottine warrior led to him deciding to settle permanently in Winter when he next visited. His hands now frail with age, Sarmen took a role at the House of Healing. No longer able to perform the complex procedures that came so easily in his younger days, he passed on his knowledge to the younger generations and cemented for himself a place on the council of the last chief minister, Bone-Mender Traline Healer. During his time as a council member, Sarmen provided a clear voice for Traline, one that wasn't afraid to question her decisions or voice his own. This boldness earned him a strong reputation on the council, and when Bone-Mender found herself no longer able to manage the affairs of Winter, her recommendation to allow Sarmen to replace her was warmly received. Bone-Mender remained Winter's member of the Rule of Five, retaining her keen mental senses in spite of her age, and Cleanwounds has been known to seek her advice in some of Winter's more troubled times.

Several years ago, after a spate of infections brought on by forgetful students, Cleanwounds gave himself his current name to remind them of the importance of hygiene in medical practice.
